1. It was good to see people again.
2. We're so glad that we left.
Going back made us realize more than anything that it was really the best thing for our marriage that we relocated to VA. We're also very grateful that God used such traumatic circumstances to basically force us to move.
It is also very cold up there while it is in the 70s down here. Very nice. We stayed at the Shipp's house which was a lot of fun and great to be able to catch up. Had lunch with Joel at Panera and it was a shock again to see everyone walled off with their Ipods on and frantically working on their laptops or pdas.
Later that evening I caught up with Aaron the Redneck Yuppie and we recalled old times as a couple of out-to-pasture student government hacks. But the good news is that there was a controversy recently in the Senate about appropriating for a new gavel. The back story is that after getting elected, I cut a deal with Aaron for him to use his constitutional authority to give me my gavel that I presided with when veep. He was allowed to do it without permission because it was less than $25. Well, the issue came up and people were asking where the previous gavel went. Then they appropriated $200 to buy a new one.
Anyway, that's all inside baseball but it was kinda fun to hear about.
Later that evening my wife went to a party for the then bride-to-be while I went to go hang out with Schwartzy. The next day we woke up early to go visit Katie D., Kristen, Layla, Rebekah, and company.
Went back to get ready for the wedding and then met folks at the reception. There were a lot of people there and it is too bad that we couldn't spend more time with folks. We met Drunkenpiper's girlfriend, among others, and Autumn really seemed to take to her right away.
I also got to talk about alumni affairs with my good friend John Vinci. Here's a picture. He's a great guy and I enjoyed the opportunity to discuss election reform, his italian heritage, and ask him why he was naked without his pen.Went to an after party at the corporate Olive Garden and sat across from Wileyman and Wileywoman. It was really swell to see them and it was cool to talk about movies and writing with the Wileys. And in case you're wondering, we did get to use the word Sarcophagus in conversation. Zach and his financee were there and it was weird because he actually exuded hapiness for the first time in his life. Galenus Maximus was also present and as always it was cool to catch up with him. He takes jokes about himself a lot better now. Well, the evening ended far to soon and the next day we were off to GA again. A great weekend and time well spent. It was also good for me personally because I had lived under a raincloud since my senior year there and thought that a lot of people really resented me and had ill feelings towards me. It was good to see that things weren't as bad as I thought, and it was good to feel a part of the world again.
Take care peeps...
